(Facebook Link) Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor

Yesterday was the first day that all of our Clubs were open in over a year (and in that we opened the Santa Cruz Branch

within the last year, yesterday was also the first day that we have ever operated six Clubs)! In total, 202 Members attended

one of our Clubs yesterday. It was great to have all of our Clubs open again!

We will continue to operate our three Casa Grande Learning Labs until in-person learning resumes (with Friday's announcement,
we now know that the earliest this will happen is March 1). In light of this extension, we are going to open up a few spots at each
of these Learning Labs. We will start communicating with families on the waiting list later this week to gauge their interest in these
programs (families already on the list will be given first priority). If you are already on the waiting list and would like to participate
in this program, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to express interest (this will probably be faster than waiting for
us to send out all of the emails, and we don't want to miss anyone). If you would like to add your children to the waiting list, please
send an email to the address listed above with their name, grade and school. Our hope is that we will have enough room for all
interested children.

As previously announced, we will resume operating three On-Site Learning Support Centers in Casa Grande on Monday, November 23. We will have 250 available spots at these three locations, and members who (1) attended one of our previous Learning Support Centers or (2) are currently attending one of our after-school programs will be given first priority with these programs. If we still have open spots after checking with all of these families (FYI- these families will receive an email from us later today with more information), we will conduct a lottery using names from both our original Learning Support Center and after-school program waiting lists. If you would like to be added to our waiting list, please send an email (with your child/ren's name, grade and school) to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 5:00 pm tomorrow (Wednesday).

Based on the interest in our Learning Support Centers that we received in August, we anticipate that we will have more families interested in these programs than we will be able to serve. Through an expanded partnership with

Casa Grande Elementary School District, the Casa Grande Alliance will be operating three additional Learning Support Centers to serve the students that we are unable to help. These programs also begin on Monday, and they will be located at all three middle schools (Casa Grande, Cactus and Villago). Please contact the Alliance for more information.

As we prepare for the return of in-person learning, all three of our Casa Grande After-School Programs will re-open on October 26 with limited capacity (no more than 12 members in a group). With this limited space, we anticipate that we will be able to fill all of our program spots at Ironwood and McCartney Ranch with just students from each of those schools, so we will not be transporting students from other schools to those Clubs this year (at least through the end of this semester).
While the Nap Lawrence Branch (and the Main Branch in the old high school gym before it) has always been our largest Club, we will only have spots for 80 members when our after-school programs resume. We know that this decreased capacity means that we won't be able to serve every family that is interested in our services (no matter how we handle registration), and this is devastating for our organization.
After a series of meetings with school district officials and then reviewing all possible options, we have decided to reserve 20 program spots for students from each of the following four schools- Cholla, Desert Willow, Mesquite and Palo Verde (based on the fact that elementary schools will release students at 1:45 pm and middle schools will release students at 3:45, we also reserved 20 spots for students from Cactus because we know that a number of elementary school members will be picked up before the middle school students arrive). As we looked at all of the different possibilities, these schools were ultimately selected because they were the five schools with the highest daily member participation last year.
If your child attends one of these schools and is interested in attending our after-school programs, please send an email with their name and grade to the school-specific email listed below by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, October 14-

If interest is greater than our capacity, we will conduct a lottery on Thursday, October 15. We will notify selected families via email by Monday, October 19.
We are sorry that we won't be able to serve students from every school when our after-school programs resume. We have had to make a series of difficult decisions over the last seven months, and this one was especially difficult. Our staff has great relationships with many students/families at each of these schools, and we hate telling families that they can or can't attend our Clubs based solely on what school they attend. We hope we are back to a point where we can expand our capacity (and resume serving more members) again soon!

As an organization, we are working hard to be a reliable partner for our families and the families of those emergency health care and public safety workers.  This is not a decision that we have come to lightly – your health and safety is our top priority, space is limited. If your child(ren) shows any symptoms or falls into CDC criteria of high risk, keep them home.  Additionally, if you can keep your child(ren) at home due to the ability to take time off or employer who allows you to telecommute, please do so.

For the past 22 years, our organization has worked hard to provide young people with a safe and fun place to go when they are not in school. It was our focus on safety that caused us to drastically change our operations two months ago, and it is this same focus on safety that will force us to change how we operate this summer.

In late-March, the CDC announced new social gathering guidelines that limited groups “to no more than 10 people”. After closing all of our Clubs, we reopened our Nap Lawrence Branch with limited capacity (64 total spots) to serve emergency and critical healthcare families from Banner Casa Grande Medical Center and Sun Life Family Health Center (since then, we have also opened up spots for families from the Casa Grande Fire and Police Departments). While we are now at a point where our city and state are starting to “open back up”, the CDC has not updated their social gathering guidelines (although we will share our plan for when they do later in this post). As we prepare for our Summer Program(which will officially start on Tuesday, May 26), we will move forward with the same capacity limits.

First responders and healthcare professionals continue to lead the charge as our nation battles the COVID-19 health crisis. We want to support these brave men and women and their families. In recognition of the critical role they play in the overall welfare of our community, we will continue to serve the families that we are currently serving during our summer program. Based on current attendance, we have 25 additional spots that we can offer to the general public. We know that this number does not come close to meeting the demand for our services (last summer, 558 members registered for our summer program and we had an average daily attendance of 219), but this is the maximum number of members we can add while still maintaining the safest environment possible. Over the past two weeks, we have had a series of discussions to determine the best way for us to host “Summer Registration” this year in a safe and fair manner. As a result, we believe that a lottery is the best way for us to move forward.

If you are interested in having your child(ren) attend our program this summer, please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with each child’s name, age, grade, a parent’s name, and a parent’s phone number (as a reminder, our summer program is open to children beginning grades 1-8). The deadline to submit this email is 8:00 am on Tuesday, May 19. We will respond to each email to confirm receipt and to share each child’s assigned number. We will then use the random number generator on to generate the list of members who will be able to attend our summer program. Once the list has been generated, we will reconnect with the selected families to begin the summer program enrollment process. As we strive to make this process as transparent as possible, we will broadcast the number generation as a Facebook Live event at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 19.

We anticipate that the CDC and local health officials will provide updated social gathering guidelines soon. If/as these guidelines allow for larger groups, we will add more spots to our summer program and we will use the same lottery-system outlined above to fill the additional spots.

We know that many of you rely on our programs. We appreciate your trust in us, and we look forward to the day when we will be allowed to operate all of our Clubs at full capacity again! Unfortunately, we know that we won’t be able to serve every interested family this summer. This is a heartbreaking situation for us, we love having a gym full of laughing kids and helping to prepare them for a great future. We know that some longtime members won’t get in and we know that families who really need us won’t get in. We wish this wasn’t our current reality, but it is. Given that reality, we think that a lottery is the fairest way to move forward. Please know this pandemic does not change our commitment to this community. We will continue to offer high-quality youth development programs in a safe environment to as many young people as we can.

We are excited to partner with Casa Grande Parks & Recreation to offer a program at the Len Colla Recreation Center this summer! This program is open to current Len Colla members, and registration will begin tomorrow at Len Colla from 8:30 - 11:30 am.

As a part of the City’s return to service plan, the Len Colla Recreation Center will operate in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of the Casa Grande Valley for the summer of 2020. This unique partnership with the Boys and Girls Club will allow families that typically utilize Len Colla to have first priority to secure a spot in the summer program. Current Len Colla members will be contacted by Boys and Girls Club to be given an opportunity to enroll. If any spots remain after current members are contacted, a lottery will take place to fill any open spots. Boys and Girls Club staff will be onsite at Len Colla on Friday, May 22 from 8:30-11:30 for summer registration.

Mission Statement

To inspire and enable all young people, to realize their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
